A Community That Feels Different.

Beautiful values that set it apart.

Monte Vista Christian School is a beautiful school with values that set it apart from other middle and high schools. They see everyone as unique individuals and craft beauty from each student's strengths — from sports to arts to academics. While the school is undoubtedly Christian, it's not a requirement to be Christian to attend. The staff truly care about students' success as humans, not just academically. The community can be felt at Friday night football games, drama productions, and every sports banquet.

I have no complaints.

MVC genuinely cares for its students and fosters personal relationships with everyone. They go above and beyond to teach and ensure everyone is seen. I have been going there since sixth grade and have no complaints.

A great place to learn and grow.

Aside from teachers who are invested in the lives of the students, the facilities being unmatched, and the vast array of opportunities for students to explore sports, arts, be creative and own their passions through clubs — the focus on their mental health is above and beyond the norm. Truly a community.

About MVC

What is Monte Vista Christian School?

MVC is a private, Christ-centered school serving students in grades 4–12 on a 100+ acre campus in the Monterey Bay area. Founded in 1926, the school offers both day and boarding programs and is celebrating its 100-year Centennial. MVC pairs rigorous academics—including the International Baccalaureate (IB) program—with character development, leadership, service, athletics, and the arts.

Do you have to be Christian to attend?

No. MVC is a Christ-centered community that welcomes families of all backgrounds. While faith is woven into the school's mission and culture, a Christian background is not a requirement for admission.

Where is the campus located?

The campus is at 2 School Way, Watsonville, California, nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains near the Monterey Bay—within reach of Santa Cruz, San Jose, and the greater Silicon Valley region.

How big is the school?

MVC enrolls roughly 830 students across grades 4–12, with a 12:1 student-to-teacher ratio and small class sizes that allow for personalized attention.

Academics

What grades does MVC serve?

MVC serves grades 4 through 12, organized into Lower Grades (4–5), Middle School (6–8), and High School (9–12).

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB) program?

MVC is an authorized IB World School offering the Middle Years Programme (grades 6–10) and the Diploma Programme (grades 11–12). Students who complete the program are also statistically more likely to be admitted to highly selective universities.

Student Life, Athletics & Arts

What sports does MVC offer?

Yes. In addition to full boarding, MVC offers a 5-day boarding option for families who prefer weekends at home.

Who is the boarding program a good fit for?

Boarding suits families seeking immersive academic and community life, including international families and those outside daily commuting distance who want their student fully engaged in campus life.
